Day 2...

South Korea started off the second day of matches with a 2-0 win over Euro 2004 champions Greece. It was a largely uninspiring display by the Europeans who fielded several experienced players, including Angelos Charisteas who scored the winner in that final against Portugal. However, that experience didn't amount to a great deal as the South Koreans managed to score within 7 minutes off the start, after poor defending by the Greeks. Lee Jung-Soo took advantage from a South Korean set piece to get his side off to a great start in the day's early kick off.

South Korea played some impressive football against a Greek side who looked distinctively off-colour. They were organised, willing to get forward, creative and probing. They looked the likelier of the two sides to score another goal and almost managed to do so on several occasions. Greece managed to create a few chances but failed to create much possession or shooting opportunities.

South Korea were able to capitalise 52 minutes in, when captain and Man Utd forward, Ji Sung Park stole the ball from Greek defender Vyntra and slid the ball into the back of the net. It was a disappointing afternoon all-round for the Greeks who still hold the record for not having scored any goals at a World Cup finals. South Korea, on the other hand, will no doubt be pleased with a good first result and will consider it as reward for their patience and hard work. It's not easy being put in the same group as Argentina and these 3 points may just prove extremely valuable, come the end of the group stage.
